The Arnold Palmer Invitational field includes nine of the top 10 golfers in the world according to the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). However, the first round did not see them find their best form as only one of them was in the top 10 after the first 18 holes.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational played its first round on Thursday, March 7, at its usual venue of Bay Hill, Orlando, Florida. It is the fourth Signature Event of the season with a purse of $20 million and 700 FedEx Cup ranking points for the winner.
Brian Harman (9th on the OWGR) had the best performance among the top 10. Harman finished in a tie for eighth place at 3-under after the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. His performance included six birdies and three bogeys. He was followed by world number one Scottie Scheffler, who tied for 19th at 2-under. Scheffler again struggled with his putting, carding three birdies and a bogey.
Wyndham Clark (7th), Viktor Hovland (4th) and Max Homa (8th) finished the first 18 holes in T24 on 1 under after the first 18 holes of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Clark had three birdies and two bogeys, while Hovland had five birdies and four bogeys. Homa had two birdies and a bogey.
Xander Schauffele (5th) tied for 35th with an even par score of three birdies, one bogey and one double bogey. Rory McIlroy (2nd) finished T47, one stroke behind Schauffele, with three birdies and four bogeys.
Finally, Patrick Cantlay (6th) and Matt Fitzpatrick (9th) are tied for 57th at 2-over. Cantlay carded three birdies and five bogeys, while Fitzpatrick had two birdies and four bogeys.
Shane Lowry leads the way at 7-under after the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Justin Lower and Hideki Matsuyama are tied for second, one stroke behind the Irishman.
