Just how clutch was Bryson DeChambeau’s shot out of the bunker at the U.S. Open?
Bryson DeChambeau hit the shot of his golf career on 18 in Sunday’s final round of the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst. And he beat the longshot odds to do so.
With Rory McIlroy missing a short putt on the 18th hole to open the door for DeChambeau, he took advantage thanks to an incredible shot from the bunker. DeChambeau hit a huge shot out of the sand and got the ball within four feet, setting up a par putt for the win.
As DeChambeau walked up to the green and eventually sank the putt to capture his second U.S. Open title, realizing what he just did may have been forgotten by some. And it was pretty damn impressive.
Per Lou Stagner, the chances of Bryson DeChambeau getting that shot to within four feet from 55 yards out was 1.7 percent. Yes, 1.7 percent….

One of the greatest clutch shots of all time.

Talk about a shot of a lifetime.
As Stagner points out, it was one of the greatest clutch shots of all time with the circumstances that he was under. It was certainly one he will never forget and after the round, he even put some sand from the bunker into the trophy.
Bryson DeChambeau is on a tear this year in majors finishing sixth at The Masters and then second at the PGA Championship. He now has the second major of his career and will be one of the favorites going into The Open next month.
