Jon Rahm lost his cool in the final round of the LIV Golf Nashville. The Spaniard has been looking for his first win at the breakaway league and as it continues to elude him, his temper is coming more and more to the surface.
This Sunday, June 23, Jon Rahm made a double on the sixth hole, after making three birdies in the first five holes. Rahm sent his tee shot into the water and had no qualms about blaming the drone that was focusing on him as part of the television broadcast.
“Every tournament,” Jon Rahm said. “It’s fucking incredible. Right on my backswing. These fucking drones every time.”
Drones have been used in LIV Golf broadcasts for almost a year now. Jon Rahm has known no other way to play the course than with the presence of these flying robots.
Nor should it be forgotten that one of the slogans of LIV Golf is “Golf, but louder,” or what is the same, players will never enjoy during their swing the peace and quiet that has been the hallmark of this sport over several centuries.
Despite this incident, Jon Rahm remained in contention for the LIV Golf Nashville title. With eight holes to play in the third and final round, he was tied with Bryson DeChambeau for second place with a score of 10 under, six strokes behind teammate Tyrrell Hatton.
Fan reaction to Jon Rahm’s “drone problems”
Naturally, fans have held nothing back when it comes to reacting to these complaints from Jon Rahm. Many have reacted by making jokes about it, while others have reminded him that this is the league he left the PGA Tour for.
@thatwasbrenton said en Instagram: “The irony of him complaining next to a sign that says ‘Golf but louder’, while @jessemoore916 said (also in Instagram): “Dude has been flat out miserable since he took the LIV money.”
En X ha ocurrido otro tanto.
@Lance_Dudley posted: “The dreaded straight ball aka The Drone did it.” @kevin_steer, for his part, said: “Reminds me of playing partners always finding an excuse for a bad shot, but never acknowledging it when it’s a good shot.”
The truth is that Rahm seems to be falling prey to frustration. As the season progresses, he remains winless in LIV Golf and has not found his best rhythm in the majors. He has The Open Championship and five LIV events left to reverse that trend. We will see what happens.
