Jon Rahm Wants LIV Golf to Transition to 72-hole format, similar to PGA TOUR

Jon Rahm, one of the most prominent figures in the world of golf, has been making waves with his recent declarations regarding the future of the sport. The Spanish superstar, who made the move from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, has been vocal about his desire to see a unified golf world tour, similar to Formula 1.

Jon Rahm was the guest of the Chipping Forecast podcast most recent edition. The Spanish expressed his support for a “world tour” concept, emphasizing the need for the sport to expand globally and include the best players from around the world. He also called for LIV Golf to adopt a 72-hole format, which he believes would help facilitate unification and acceptance from the golfing establishment.

This is part of what Jon Rahm had to say:

“I might not have not been vocal in media, but I’ve told exactly those words where we need to follow the F1 model. I’ve told both tours. In fact a lot of things LIV have done has been based on Formula 1, so I would be really happy to do that. I think if we are to take golf to the next level we are going to have to be playing worldwide. That’s the main thing. And you want to have the best players world so I would love to see that.”

“If there was ever a way that LIV could go to 72 holes I think it would help all of this argument a lot. I’ve made this comparison that you have the Spanish La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, they all have the same product. The closer we can get LIV Golf to some other things the better it might be for unification and feeding a world tour like that.”

Jon Rahm on his rol as a “tipping point” on the PGA Tour – PIF negotiations

Jon Rahm’s optimism about the future of golf is evident in his recent comments about the ongoing discussions between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. He believes that the recent meeting between Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the chairman of Saudi Golf and the PGA Tour board, is a positive sign, and that the two sides are closer to unification than ever before.

The Spanish Masters defending champion also acknowledged the impact of his decision to join LIV Golf, stating that he understood the weight of his decision and the potential impact it could have on the sport. He believes that his move could be the start of a “tipping point”, leading to greater unity and collaboration between the two tours.

Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding LIV Golf, Jon Rahm remains optimistic about the future of the sport. He believes that the key to unlocking the sport’s full potential is to create a unified golf world tour, where the best players can compete on a global stage.

Jon Rahm’s vision for the future of golf is clear: a unified golf world tour, where the best players can compete on a global stage, showcasing their skills to a worldwide audience. He believes that LIV Golf needs to adopt a 72-hole format to help facilitate unification, and that his decision to join the league could be the start of a tipping point, leading to greater unity and collaboration between the two tours. Only time will tell if Rahm’s vision becomes a reality, but one thing is certain: the Spanish star is determined to make a positive impact on the sport he loves.
