Lydia, representing New Zealand in the 2024 Paris Olympics, led the scoreboard as of Round 2 at #3 with a -5 this Wednesday, and is now (UPDATED) currently tied with Switzerland’s Metraux for 1st neck-in-neck for the GOLD! The race for the medal has been extremely exciting and just coming up on the last round here, we are really wondering if Ko can channel all of her athleticism and gusto to nab it. Or, if we will see Nelly Korda again reclaim the fame as she did in Toyko just four years ago.
Lydia Ko: Behind the Pro Golfer and Her Olympic Support
The Seoul-born but New Zealand-raised emigrant and incredibly talented player started her journey with golf at the age of 5 and became the youngest player to win a PGA tour in history in 2012 as well as the youngest to win a professional tournament at the New South Wales and Canadian Opens.
With massive crowds at the Olympics supporting the female golfers fighting for the title, Ko commented on the incredible feedback to Golf Digest after the first round. “It’s been really cool. Obviously played the group behind Celine these past couple days so the people are super excited to support their fellow Frenchmen. But at the same time, the fans here have been so great because they have been supporting each and every one of us. I’ve honestly loved it. It almost brought tears to my eyes yesterday on the first hole because this could potentially be my last Olympics, and to have it in front of this mass amount of 30,000 people, it’s an unbelievable feeling.”
We know that we are cheering her on with such anticipation of the outcome in these life changing rounds as we near the end of golf’s Olympic road. And, on that subject, let’s discuss what sets Lydia Ko apart from the rest when it comes to form and precision.
Lydia Ko’s Amazing Secret Hybrid Hitter Tip
Golf is any man’s, rather woman’s, game at any given day on the course. One day of victory and leading unfortunately never will determine the next in a tournament. But there are strategies to create a more fluid ease in the game that we can look to the pro’s in the sport for!
We were fortunate to come across a killer video from Ko’s pro coach and PGA golfer Jimmy Wisinski posted back in 2023 when doing some serious research on how Ko keeps her swing and composure on the green. In the short, Jimmy reminds viewers and female golf fanatics that people tend to forget hybrids are meant to replace iron, therefor requiring a much more thorough swinging solution.
Creating a motion of down and through with a leaning on the lead side, finding yourself stacked with the club head over the golf ball rather than pulling up toward the horizon will bring you a solid and consistent swing that we see Ko bringing to her game time and time again.

What we like most about this tip though is the strategy of holding the club systematically between the shoulder blades and practicing the motion and follow through without actually needing to fully approach the ball with the club. Lydia implements this formulaic attack with ease as she has established herself in the PGA space since 2014 at only 28 years of age.
After watching her on the course for years now, it is very clear that Ko uses this strategy near-flawlessly like a second skin. She knows how to execute, keep her head down and shift her correct position exactly where she needs it to be. Can she bring the gold home to New Zealand after all these years? We cannot wait to see.
