At the 2024 BMW Championship, an unusual incident involving a spectator disrupted Max Homa’s routine on the 15th hole, and it was not due to the nature of the game. While Homa was preparing for a crucial putt, an unexpected scream interrupted the tranquility of the course.

The cause was the breaking of the chair in which one of the thousands of spectators at the course, was sitting. This caused him to fall to the ground, resulting in his girlfriend’s scream that could have disrupted the golfer’s concentration.

What could have been an awkward moment for Max Homa turned into an amusing anecdote, thanks to the player’s reaction.

The woman who screamed, named Erinn Lopez, posted on X (formerly Twitter) an apology to Max Homa:

“Sincerest apologies to Max Homa for the scream while you were putting on 15 today our chair snapped clean in half and the next thing I knew my boyfriend was on the floor”, as a gesture of respect for the player.

Instead of becoming upset, Homa demonstrated his characteristic sense of humor on social media, where he commented:

“Ha ha I feel worse for his ego than my 3 putt so thank u for this.”

This incident, which quickly gained significant online attention, not only brought joy to fans but also showcased Homa’s ability to handle unexpected situations with poise and grace.

    Max Homa’s Reaction

Homa did not display any signs of frustration. Instead, he approached the situation with a positive attitude and a touch of humor, which has become his signature style. His comment on social network X (formerly Twitter) demonstrated his ability to maintain composure in the field, even in unusual moments.

Max Homa, renowned for his adeptness at forging connections with fans through social media, was swift to inject humor into the situation, eliciting amused responses and commendations for his demeanor.

    An incident to remember

The incident of the chair splitting in two is an excellent illustration of how golf, despite its reputation as a serious sport, can provide moments of genuine enjoyment. Max Homa’s response not only defused a potentially uncomfortable situation, but also showcased his ability to maintain a sense of humor in the midst of competition.

This episode will remain engraved in the memory of fans as one of those anecdotes that make the sport even more attractive. Homa’s witty response not only gained her the respect of those present, but also of those who followed the story on social networks. While Erinn Lopez’s boyfriend may prefer to forget the incident, it serves as a reminder to us all that, in golf, as in life, there is always room for a good laugh.

Max Homa and the third round of the BMW Championship

Despite an unfortunate incident on the 15th hole, Max Homa demonstrated resilience and maintained an acceptable performance in the BMW Championship. The third round, during which the incident occurred, concluded with a score of +1, which enabled him to advance two positions with respect to Round 2 and achieve a tie for 45th place in the competition.

Prior to the incident, his performance was somewhat erratic. Three birdies and a single bogey in the first nine holes indicated an interesting morning was ahead. However, a double bogey on hole 10 and consecutive bogies on 13, 14, and 15 negatively impacted the player’s position on the leaderboard.

The incident on the 15th hole appeared to provide Max with a much-needed boost of energy, as evidenced by his performance in the final three holes, where he secured two pars and a birdie, ultimately concluding the round with a score of +1.
