The 2024 Mizuho Americas Open ended at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J., with Nelly Korda’s sixth victory of the season. It was another hard-fought victory for Korda, who narrowly beat Australia’s Hannah Green.
Nelly Korda climbed to first place in the Mizuho Americas Open after the third round, two strokes ahead of Hannah Green. But in the final round, the Australian quickly recovered the deficit and both were head to head until the last hole. In fact, Green’s bogey and Korda’s par on the 18th hole decided the victory of the American by one stroke.
The Mizuho Americas Open is Nelly Korda‘s sixth victory during the 2024 LPGA Tour season (five in a row). Not since 2013 had a tour player won six tournaments or more.
“Oh, my gosh, six,” Korda said about her victory, “I can’t even really gather myself right now with that, the head-to-head that Hannah [Green] and I had pretty much all day. Wasn’t my best stuff out there today but fought really hard on the back nine. It was just amazing to share the stage with Hannah. I consider her a pretty good friend out here, and it was a lot of fun going head-to-head against her.”
Gabriela Ruffels, Chanettee Wannasaen, Ariya Jutanugarn and Jennifer Kupcho (who lost to Rose Zhang in a playoff here last year), were all tied for third at the Mizuho Americas Open, three shots behind Australia’s Green.
Korda’s Mizuho Americas Open victory earned her the $450,000 winner’s share of the $3,000,000 purse. By winning the event, Korda also earned 500 points in the Race to the CME Globe, with the top 60 players in points advancing to the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. A 36-hole cut was made this week, with 58 players finishing the second of three events in New Jersey this season. The 2024 LPGA Tour schedule continues in two weeks with the US Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.
