Going for her second Olympic gold medal is American-born, Nelly Korda. Having already 14 LPGA tour and multiple Solheim Cup wins under her 26-year-old belt, the local Floridian star has her eyes set on the next medal to place around her neck in just a matter of days.
The (Nelly) Korda Genes
Home to some of the most famous courses in the world, Florida seems to be producing world title champions left-and-right, and for good reason. But the courses aren’t the only reason for this female golfer’s sterling reputation in this sport, she has some genetics on her side with former pro tennis stars Petr Korda and Regina Rajchrtova for parents. Not only does she contain professional genes from her past but also her present with sister and fellow pro golf PGA star, Jessica Korda, and younger brother and professional current tennis pro, Sebastian Korda. Needless to say, the bar in the Korda family for athletic competition, we can only imagine, is quite high and always rising with the future generations of Kordas to come!
Game Time Prep
When commenting on what led her to be the Olympic gold medal winner at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Korda stated that “a weird rush of emotions through the last 9 holes before her victory, leaving her feeling emptiness that is difficult to describe” in an interview done with Golf.com.
What she companied to celebrate her victory at the time was so shocking to fans with such an elegance and quietness that really allows us to see her for the humble athlete that she will always be. She tells us in the interview that following her gold medal, she simply went home, laid in bed, shut off her phone and did her best to replay all of the moments of the day in the tournament in her mind in pure silence. Only after could she allow herself to really live in the fact that it was the most amazing feeling to achieve that victory.
Inspiring young female golfers all over the world, with so many accolades in her career so far, the fan support being shown to Korda to achieve her second gold medal is unmatched, and even “un-gendered.”
“The atmosphere was insane. I can’t even imagine what it is like within Celine’s [Boutier] group. I’ve heard a couple of the roars, and it’s been such an amazing experience so far. I saw the crowds for men’s. To see the similar crowds for the women is mind-blowing. I wasn’t sure what to expect walking onto that first tee. Then I looked out to the green, and I saw like four people deep. I told Jason, ‘Oh my gosh, this is absolutely amazing.’ I did not expect this many people to come out,” Korda said to SB Nation’s Playing Through.
As Rose Zhang and Korda are dead even with an impressive par 72 at the end of the first day in the Paris 2024 Olympics, we can only imagine that she is somewhere quiet and envisioning her choices in the round. Thinking of all the masterful ways to get ahead of France’s Boutier tomorrow in Round 2 and keep that astonishing Olympic gold medal title for the second time. Not to mention, USA player Lilia Vu, that is just behind them!
We cannot wait to see what amazing golf awaits us and what Korda is really made of, yet again!
