In April, Phil Mickelson will return to Augusta National for the Masters. It’s a place where the legendary golfer has captured the green jacket three times, and despite his age and the lack of recent success, Mickelson is confident in his ability to win another one.
Phil Mickelson feels good heading into the Masters
Phil Mickelson just put in his best performance in a LIV Golf tournament, placing third and helping his team tie for third as well. He has really not had that level of success at LIV yet, and he believes it’s a sign of things to come.
“So I really had a great offseason, and I figured some things out, and I’m playing a different style of golf,” the golfer said via Golf.com. “I’ve been playing really well at home, and it’s great to take it here. I didn’t putt well at Adelaide, otherwise I would have contended there, as well. I played really good golf, and I had about four or five putts — today even — that could have gone lower and been an ultra low round to make a run.”
The Masters are in just a few weeks, and it’ll be the first tournament on such a stage for Mickelson in 2025. He said he’s hitting a lot of good shots and playing well, and he views all of this right now as the lead-up to his Augusta trip, where he wants to win another Major.
Mickelson has six to his name, including those three green jackets. If Mickelson were to capture a fourth title, he’d be the fourth player to reach that plateau. Jack Nicklaus has six green jackets, Tiger Woods has five, and Arnold Palmer ended with four.
There’s still plenty of time for Mickelson to either go cold or continue to heat up, but he certainly feels good after a terrific outing in Hong Kong. He said, “It didn’t feel hard. It felt easy. I probably led the field in fairways hit. I haven’t seen the stats, but I’d be surprised if anybody hit more than I did.”
The golfer finished up by saying, “My game is getting sharp. My short game is back. I had a rough couple of years. My short game is really sharp now. My iron play is back, and my game is starting to really come around, and I’m also playing differently. I’m playing a lot less stressed, and it’s coming.”
