Pro golfer Georgia Ball made headlines in the golf world this week after a man approached her at a practice range and offered unsolicited advice about her golf swing. A few days later, the PGA pro said she could see the “funny side” of it.
It happened at a time when the pro golfer was practicing her swing and filming content for her TikTok channel (which has more than 160,000 followers). A man practicing near her told her she shouldn’t be doing it the way she was.
It was no use Georgia Ball telling her she was working on changing her swing, the man persisted in his advice, something that has come to be known as ‘mansplaining’. In the video, which has gone viral, the pro golfer is seen executing a perfect iron swing.
Pro golfer Georgia Ball: “It’s just not in me to say, ‘I’m a professional golfer.'”
Georgia Ball was interviewed about the mansplaining situation on ITV’s popular This Morning. The professional golfer said that it is quite common for men to want to give her “advice” on the driving range, although she described this particular moment as “backward”.
So said pro golfer Gerogia Ball:
“As a humble person it’s just not in me to say ‘I’m a professional golfer, I know what I’m doing’ so it just wasn’t in me to to say that to him… I get a lot of advice and most of the time it’s positive, so, in that situation, it was awkward, but I’m just glad looking back in it now I can see the funny side to it.”
Georgia Ball, 26, is a certified PGA pro and golf coach based in Liverpool, England. She also promotes golf content on her social media.
