TGL has signed Swedish rising star Ludvig Aberg to one of its teams. Aberg has been making waves in the golfing world for over a year now. Just in June 2023, he was wrapping up an impressive college career at Texas Tech. Today, he is ranked sixth in the Official World Golf Ranking, with victories on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour. He has also helped Team Europe win the Ryder Cup last fall and finished second in the Masters in his major debut. His rapid rise in the golfing world has been nothing short of phenomenal.
With the announcement of the final six rosters for TGL’s inaugural season, the addition of Ludvig Aberg to Bay Golf Club’s star-studded roster alongside top-ranked players Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee and Shane Lowry sets the stage for an electrifying debut season when the league launches in January 2025. The team aims to reach a global fan base with golfers from the U.S., Sweden, Ireland and Australia and a combined social audience of nearly 2 million.
With the addition of Ludvig Aberg to the league, all but one of the 24 players on rosters have now been set, with the Boston-based franchise still needing to replace Tyrrell Hatton, who left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. There are no LIV players involved in the league, which was formed by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and sports executive Mike McCarley with an entity named TMRW Sports.
This is the list of teams and players:
- Atlanta—Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel
- Boston—Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Keegan Bradly, TBA
- Jupiter Links (Fla.)—Tiger Woods, Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, Tom Kim
- Los Angeles Golf Club—Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Sahith Theegala, Justin Rose
- New York Golf Club—Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young.
- Bay Golf Club—Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg
TGL: In search of a new golfing experience
TGL (Team Golf League) presented by SoFi is a new golf league, combining advanced technology with teams of top players from the PGA TOUR for two-hour weekly competitions in prime time starting in January 2025.
Six TGL teams representing six different cities will go head-to-head in a season-long competition at SoFi Center, a first-of-its-kind venue built specifically for TGL on the campus of Palm Beach State College. Matches will air on ESPN and ESPN+ in the U.S. with every shot live and all the players mic’d up, bringing unprecedented access to the competition for golf fans.
The league format is points-based, similar to what is used in soccer or hockey. Teams receive two points for winning in regulation or overtime, one point for losing in overtime, and zero points for losing in regulation.
The players will hit most of their shots into the screen of a giant simulator and will putt on a green whose contours can be altered for every hole played. TGL was scheduled to debut this past fall, but was delayed when the domed roof of the arena collapsed during a power outage.
With a focus on innovation, technology, and competitive spirit, TGL promises to redefine the golfing landscape and captivate audiences with its dynamic format and star-studded lineups. As the countdown to the inaugural season begins, all eyes are on the Bay Golf Club and its stellar roster, including the talented Ludvig Aberg, as they prepare to make their mark in this groundbreaking venture.
