As the Masters 2024 approaches, anticipation is building. The lush greens of Augusta National Golf Club are ready to witness another chapter in golf history. The field is filled with the best players in the world, and the question hangs in the air: Who will win the green jacket?
It is well known that even the legendary crystal ball is not enough to make predictions in golf. However, there is a group of players who stand out from the rest when it comes to their chances of winning the Masters Tournament. Let’s see who they are.
Experts’ Top 10 Picks for the Masters Tournament
There is no doubt that names like Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy stand out in the field for the 2024 Masters Tournament. Let’s see who is in the top 10:
1. Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler has continued the tremendous streak of good finishes he started in 2022, when he even won the Masters. In 2024, he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship, then finished second at the Houston Open. Scheffler is one of the best ball-strikers in the world and his putting has shown remarkable improvement, all crucial to winning at Augusta.
2. Jon Rahm
The defending Masters champion has played just five professional events in 2024, all on LIV Golf. He is still searching for his first victory on that circuit, but has always finished in the top 10, in addition to two wins with his Legion XIII team.
Jon Rahm’s excellent results also come from last season, when he won the Green Jacket in addition to three other victories on the PGA Tour.
3. Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka hasn’t had great performances in LIV Golf, although his results have generally been good. Still, Koepka is a must-play for the majors, as these tournaments have a special effect on him. An example of this is last season, when Koepka not only won the fifth major of his career (PGA Championship), but also finished T2 at the Masters.
4. Hideki Matsuyama
Hideki Matsuyama already knows what it means to win the green jacket (he won in 2021) and has always had excellent results at Augusta National. As if that were not enough, the Japanese already won this year (The Genesis Invitational) with an outstanding performance at Riviera.
5. Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy’s motivation to win the Masters is no secret. A victory would see him join the handful of players who have completed the career Grand Slam, the true elite of golf.
The Northern Irishman started the season with a win and a second place finish on the DP World Tour. On the PGA Tour, McIlroy has not started with his usual strength, but his first top 10 came just a week before the Masters (Valero Texas Open), so McIlroy will be looking to build on that momentum at Augusta.
6. Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele has been out of the PGA Tour winner’s circle since 2022, although he has not lacked for good performances. In fact, he has not missed the cut in more than 40 tournaments. He has five top-10 finishes in 2024 and has been in contention in several events.
7. Joaquin Niemann
The Chilean has been one of the big stories of the season, with three wins and five top 10s in nine tournaments. He won the Australian Open on the DP World Tour and then the Mayakoba and Jeddah events on the LIV Golf. His only finish outside the top 10 was at the LIV Golf Las Vegas. He came to the Masters thanks to a special invitation, but he has enough quality to win.
8. Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth is a former Masters champion who is always in contention. His record at Augusta is impressive, with a win, two seconds, two thirds and a fourth showing how well he understands the course.
