Once again, the Masters Tournament has proven to be an event not for heart patients. The course at Augusta National Golf Club has imposed numerous and varied records on the green jacket hopefuls, and not all have been able to navigate their way through them with good fortune.
Scottie Scheffler is the lone leader of the Masters with a score of 7 under after 54 holes. Scheffler has proven that there is no other player in the world who can maintain a high and consistent performance like he can, regardless of the circumstances.
On Saturday, Scheffler played the third round of the Masters with one eagle, four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey for a score of 1-under. It had been 370 holes since Scheffler had a double bogey.
Collin Morikawa put himself in contention for the title with a 3-under round. Morikawa was just one stroke off the lead and will play in the final group of the Masters Tournament alongside the world number one on Sunday.
Another player who continued his good pace was Max Homa, who parred 17 of the day’s 18 holes (he made one bogey). Homa said he was ready for Sunday with a “dog mentality”. Ludvig Aberg also remained in contention with a round of four bogeys and two double bogeys.
Bryson DeChambeau made one of the most spectacular plays of the round, holing out from 180 yards for birdie on the 18th. The play allowed him to stay within four shots of Scheffler, a notable but not insurmountable gap.
Tiger Woods played a round to forget (10 over), very much affected by pain in his back and ankle. However, he assured that he will not withdraw and will play his last round this Sunday, accompanied by the lowest amateur, Neal Shipley.
