One of the top party schools in the world, in a region known for breeding golf talent like Texas breeds Football players, has one more thing to celebrate.
Florida State University (FSU) has snagged a golfing phenom in Miles Russell.
“Beyond excited to announce my commitment to Florida State University,” said Russell on Instagram. I’m incredibly grateful to my family for their endless support, my friends, Coach Ramon Bescansa for everything he’s done to help me along the way, and Coach Jones for this amazing opportunity. Can’t wait to get to Tallahassee – Go Noles!”
Russell, the Jacksonville Beach native, is the top-ranked junior overall and in the class of 2027, according to the AJGA and Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Some of his recent junior accolades include:
Winning the 2023 Boys Junior PGA
Winning the 2025 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley
Winning the South Beach International Amateur
Did I mention Russell is the youngest player to make a Korn Ferry Tour (KFT) cut? He finished T-20 at the Suncoast Classic, making him the youngest since 1983 to post a top 25 finish on either the PGA or the KFT.
That’s golfing the ball on another level for a kid who was still in high school at the time.

I hope he was excused from class that Monday.
He was also the AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2023, the AJGA’s highest honor, the youngest since Tiger Woods. One more time, and he will join Woods and five others as the only multiple winners.
Phil Micklelson holds the record with three wins.
The future is bright for Coach Trey Jones’ Florida State golf program, and it’s more than just the sunshine. In 2024, the Noles reached the NCAA Match Play Championship. FSU beat North Carolina, 3-1, in the quarterfinals and Georgia Tech, 3-2.
The Noles went 3-0 in Match play, defeating UNC, Georgia Tech and Auburn. FSU Golf is trending upward, and Russell may be the catalyst that lifts them to the top of the college golf world.
