After a delay on Thursday and a late start today the fight for the FedEx Playoffs began at the Wyndham Championship, only to be delayed due to darkness in round 1.
DEBBY PUT UP A FIGHT BUT WON’T KEEP THE WYNDHAM DOWN.
The cleanup and preparation after the fallout from Hurricane Debby proved to be a formidable challenge for the Wyndham Championship agronomy staff, plus roughly 60 volunteers. However, with the lessening accumulation of rain, man proved that Mother Nature would not hold back golf another day and allowed for a 9:30 AM local start Friday at the Wyndham.

LET’S GET IT ON!
Once underway the Wyndham and Sedgefield CC couldn’t contain the hunger of the golfers to start the scoring right away. With lift clean and place rules in effect after the storms a number of players were aiming low.
IS THERE A 59 OUT THERE?
Beau Hossler started in the early session and took advantage of the wet conditions. Going out in 28, Beau had opportunities on 16, 17, and 18 for yet another 59 on tour this year. Unfortunately, he could not convert and parred out for a first round leading 60 (-10) for the former Texas Longhorn. His first-round efforts have him projected to move inside the Top 70, from 88 all the way to 51, if he can continue playing hot golf through the weekend.
Not to be outdone, English golfer Ben Taylor also threw out 7 birdies on his front 9 to go out in 28. However, his bid for 59 was derailed after bogeying two of his first three holes on the back, leading to a 36 and a first-round total 64 (-6).
Billy Horschel scorched the front as well, holing out from 145 yards on his second hole of the day, on his way to an opening 29, and ending his day at -8 thru 16 holes. He will finish in the morning and roll right into his second round at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Billy has moved into the odds-on favorite to take the win at the Wyndham at +400.
OTHER NOTABLES
Nick Taylor, solo 3rd, has a -7 first round going through 14 holes.
4 golfers are at T4 (-6) with Ben Taylor, the others are, Brendan Todd, Austin Eckroat, and Matt Kuchar.
Kuchar, lost to his son for the first time this week in a friendly father-son competition which may have him fired up to take down the Wyndham field. The only way he can continue his streak of playoffs made (17, everyone since the playoff’s inception) is to win the final tournament of the year.
No announcement has been made regarding the finish to the tournament just yet, but expect either a 36-hole finish on Sunday or a Monday 18 finish for the Wyndham.
