The prestigious Amundi Evian Championship is set to captivate the golfing world once again as it returns to the scenic Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France, from July 11-14, 2024. This major tournament, known for its breathtaking views of the French Alps and Lake Geneva, features a par-72 course spanning 6,693 yards.

Competing for a share of the impressive $8 million purse, the winner will take home a staggering $1.5 million. As the penultimate major on the women’s calendar, the stakes are high, and the competition fierce.

Steeped in history, the Evian Championship achieved major status in 2013, evolving from the Evian Masters. It is celebrated not only for its challenging course but also for its picturesque setting.

Notable past champions include Lydia Ko, who became the youngest major winner here at 18, and In Gee Chun, who set a record with a 21-under-par finish in 2016. Last year, Celine Boutier made history as the first Frenchwoman to win this prestigious title, thrilling the home crowd with her dominant performance.

Amundi Evian Championship: Weather and Course Condition

This year, the course conditions at the Evian Resort Golf Club are expected to be pristine, with meticulously manicured fairways and greens. The course has undergone recent enhancements to ensure it challenges even the most skilled golfers. The undulating terrain and strategically placed bunkers will test the precision and endurance of the players, making accuracy paramount.

Weather forecasts predict a mix of sun and mild temperatures, ideal for competitive play. Light winds are expected, adding an extra layer of complexity to the Amundi Evian Championship.

Players will need to adapt to changing conditions, particularly on the course’s more exposed holes, where wind can be a significant factor. Overall, the weather is set to provide a fair yet challenging environment for the competitors.

    The Field

The 2024 Amundi Evian Championship will feature a star-studded field of the best female golfers in the world, including nine of the top 10 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

Last year’s champion, Celine Boutier, will be defending her title against a formidable frield, including Nelly Korda, who has dominated the LPGA Tour this season with six victories. Despite recent setbacks with missed cuts in the last three tournaments (two majors) and a recent dog bite injury, Korda remains the favorite.

Notable players include Brooke Henderson, the 2022 champion, who is also a strong contender, having finished second last year. She’s had some great results this season, so she’s definitely one to watch.

Amy Yang, fresh off her victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, will undoubtedly be looking to add another major title to her resume. Other key players include Atthaya Thitikul and Lilia Vu, both of whom have shown impressive form this year. Charley Hullis an uncertainty, due to her shoulder injury last week.

    Expert and Sleeper Picks

    Expert Picks:

Nelly Korda (11-1): Despite some recent setbacks, Nelly Korda’s overall performance this season makes her a top pick to win the Amundi Evian Championship. Her powerful drives and consistent putting have earned her six titles this year. If she can shake off her recent lack of focus, she’ll be a strong contender for the championship.

Lilia Vu (16-1): Vu emerges as a strong contender at this year’s Amundi Evian Championship. Vu has been a standout on the LPGA Tour this season, consistently showcasing her skill and resilience.

Her precise iron play and strategic approach to the game have earned her top finishes in several tournaments. Vu’s ability to remain composed under pressure and her knack for navigating challenging courses make her a formidable competitor.

    Sleeper Picks:

Leona Maguire (40-1): Leona Maguire’s recent victory on the Ladies European Tour and her history of strong performances at the Amundi Evian Championship make her a compelling sleeper pick. Her record-breaking round of 61 in 2021 highlights her potential to excel on this course.

Morgane Metraux (250-1): As a long shot, Morgane Metraux is an intriguing pick. Having won at the same venue earlier this year at the Jabra Ladies Open, her familiarity with the course and recent form could lead to a surprising finish. At 250-1, she offers significant value for those looking to bet on an underdog.
