Brooke Henderson put her hometown of Smiths Falls, Ontario, on the golf world’s map when she went on to win 13 LPGA Tour events, including two majors, by the age of 26. So it’s no surprise that the town put on a remarkable event on Saturday, August 3, to say farewell to Henderson on her way to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The grand send-off featured a police escort, enthusiastic fans, and heartfelt speeches, highlighting the community’s immense support for Brooke Henderson, who will be representing Canada in the women’s golf individual stroke play competition. Accompanied by her sister and caddie, Brittany Henderson, Brooke expressed her gratitude, stating:

“It’s so special. It’s really amazing. Thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting us.”

The picturesque town of Smiths Falls is renowned for its strong community spirit, which was vividly displayed during the send-off event. Mayor Shawn Pankow, who played a significant role in organizing the event, shared his sentiments on Facebook, saying:

“What an incredible turnout from our community to cheer on Brooke and Brittany Henderson as they leave town headed for the Paris Olympics and a chance for gold! Best of luck Brooke and Brittany, your entire town and country are with you every step of the way!!”

This emotional farewell underscored the pride and hope the town holds for their local hero.

The grand send-off in Smiths Falls is more than just a farewell; it symbolizes the growing recognition and support for golf in the Olympics. Events like these highlight the sport’s potential to achieve the same level of prestige as the Majors. The community’s overwhelming response and the widespread attention on social media showcase the sport’s ability to unite people and inspire future generations of golfers.

Brooke Henderson’s Journey and Impact on Golf

Brooke Henderson’s journey to the Paris Olympics comes on the back of an impressive 2024 season. With 16 starts, Henderson has secured three top-5 finishes and 12 top-30 finishes, positioning her eighth in the race to the CME Globe with 1178 points.

Notable performances include a third-place finish at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and T3 finishes at both the HSBC Women’s World Championship and The Chevron Championship. Her consistency and determination have made her a formidable contender, and the town’s send-off was a fitting tribute to her hard work and dedication.

Brooke Henderson’s send-off event has gained significant attention on social media, with videos and photos shared widely. Hustle & Heart 88.1 myFM shared a video of the event on Facebook, which was later reposted on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:

“Brooke’s hometown of Smiths Falls helped send her off to the #Olympics in style! The Mayor, town, Brooke and Brittany’s favorite Horses, and a police escort wished her well on her way to Paris.”

This virality reflects the growing notoriety of golf in the Olympics, a testament to the sport’s increasing popularity and significance on the global stage.

Brooke Henderson’s Olympic journey is a story of perseverance and excellence. This marks her third appearance at the Olympics, having finished T7 in the 2016 Rio Olympics and tied for 29th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her return to the Olympic stage is a significant milestone, not just for her but for the sport of golf, which continues to gain prominence since its reintroduction to the Games.

As Brooke Henderson prepares to tee off at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, from August 7 to 10, she carries with her the hopes and dreams of Smiths Falls and Canada. The town’s enthusiastic send-off and the viral spread of the event underscore the significant impact that Brooke’s journey has on both her local community and the broader golf community.

Brooke’s presence at the Paris Olympics is a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating the power of sports to bring people together and create lasting memories. The notoriety of golf in the Olympics is on the rise, and with athletes like Brooke Henderson leading the way, the future of golf looks brighter than ever. As the town of Smiths Falls continues to rally behind their hometown hero, the world watches in anticipation, ready to witness history in the making.
