Charley Hull made headlines by expressing her desire for the Trump Turnberry golf course to be reinstated into the rotation for major championships. Speaking candidly after a round of golf at the Scottish course, Hull emphasized that the prestigious links deserve to host top-tier events once again.

This declaration comes as she prepares for upcoming tournaments, including the Women’s Scottish Open and the AIG Women’s Open.

Charley Hull, currently ranked 11th in the world, shared her thoughts with Bunkered during her preparation rounds. Despite recent back injuries, she has been focused on her game and spoke passionately about her experiences at Trump Turnberry. Her comments have reignited the debate about the course, which was removed from the rotation after the events at the US Capitol in January 2021 due to its association with former US President Donald Trump.

Charley Hull’s Endorsement of Trump Turnberry

The news that Charley Hull is advocating for Trump Turnberry’s return to the rotation of major championships has sparked discussions within the golf community. Hull stated:

“A hundred per cent [yes]. I think it’s a shame, it’s a really top track. Honestly, it’s one of the best golf courses in the world. It would be a shame not to be there.”

Charley Hull’s words reflect the admiration many golfers have for the course. Trump Turnberry has a storied history, having hosted four editions of The Open Championship and two editions of The Women’s Open. The course is celebrated for its challenging layout and stunning views along the Ayrshire coastline.

However, the course was removed from the rotation after the R&A, the body responsible for organizing The Open, decided it would no longer host events there. This decision came in response to the controversial political actions of its owner, Donald Trump. Despite these concerns, Charley Hull believes that the focus should be on the quality of the course rather than its ownership.

Trump Turnberry has long been regarded as one of the premier courses in the world. Its history includes iconic moments like the 1977 “Duel in the Sun” between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus during The Open. Hull’s endorsement of the course is rooted in its legacy, which she feels should not be overlooked due to external factors.

In her interview, Charley Hull mentioned:

“I thought it was a great golf course, great fun. I love being out there, and the views are brilliant.”

Her enthusiasm for the course is shared by many, including golf legends like Gary Player and John Daly, who have also called for Turnberry to return to the rotation.

While the R&A has maintained its stance against hosting events at Turnberry, the debate continues. Charley Hull’s comments have added fuel to the fire, especially as she prepares for her upcoming tournaments in Scotland.

The decision to exclude Trump Turnberry from major championship rotations has been met with mixed reactions. Some argue that the course’s association with Trump should not overshadow its significance in the golf world, while others believe that the political implications cannot be ignored.

Charley Hull’s endorsement brings attention back to the course, particularly as the Women’s Open approaches. The last time the Women’s Open was held at Trump Turnberry was in 2015, and since then, it has been notably absent from the schedule.

Hull’s desire to see the course return to the rotation reflects a broader sentiment among players who appreciate the unique challenges the course offers.

Charley Hull’s focus is now on the Women’s Scottish Open and the AIG Women’s Open, where she hopes to make a strong showing. Despite recent injuries, Hull remains optimistic and determined to compete at the highest level.

Her comments on Trump Turnberry come at a crucial time as the golf world watches her performance closely.

Charley Hull’s advocacy for Trump Turnberry underscores her commitment to the sport and her belief in the importance of preserving its history. Whether or not the course will return to the rotation remains to be seen, but Hull’s words have certainly reignited the conversation.

As the golf season progresses, all eyes will be on Hull as she navigates her way through these prestigious tournaments, with the hope that her voice will make a difference in the future of Trump Turnberry.
