The 2024 CJ Cup Nelson Byron was a thrilling showcase of golfing talent, with Canadian Taylor Pendrith emerging as the winner. He shot a 4-under 67 on Sunday to beat Ben Kohles (66) by one shot. Pendrith’s victory was his first on the PGA Tour in his 74th start.
Taylor Pendrith’s performance to win the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson included rounds of 64, 67, 63 and 67, with two eagles, 22 birdies and only three bogeys. Interestingly, his two eagles came on back-to-back holes during the third round (holes 5-6), the third player to accomplish this feat during the current season after Adam Svensson (Sony Open in Hawaii) and Ryan Fox (The Players Championship).
Pendrith is the first Canadian to win the event currently known as CJ Cup Byron Nelson since the tournament’s inception in 1944. He is also the 10th international winner in the last 15 editions.
Other notable players in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson field included second-round leader Jake Knapp, who finished just one stroke back and joined Pendrith in the final pairing. Matt Wallace also had a strong performance, and big names like Si Woo Kim, Adam Scott, Alex Noren, and Sungjae Im were among the contenders.
The 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson was also the stage for England’s Kris Kim to become the youngest player since 2015 to make the cut on the PGA Tour. Kim made it at 16 years, 7 months and three days.
The CJ Cup Byron Nelson was held at the TPC Craig Ranch, a parkland-style course stretching 7,414 yards with Bentgrass putting surfaces. The course, designed by Tom Weiskopf in 2004, features tree-lined Zoysia grass fairways, 2.75-inch Bermuda rough, 83 sand bunkers, and 13 holes with water hazards. This was the fourth year that TPC Craig Ranch hosted the Byron Nelson.
