President Donald Trump hosted both the PGA Tour and the PIF, Principal Investment Fund, at the White House recently. The meeting’s goal was to help facilitate the end of negotiations on a merger. The two sides have been working something out since the summer of 2023.
The White House visit did not come with the good news that many had anticipated, but President Trump did clarify a few things in a recent remark. The president delivered an update on the negotiations and his involvement on Tuesday.
President Donald Trump talks PIF, PGA meeting

President Donald Trump believes a deal is coming soon. He expressed optimism that the two sides would be able to work something out for the better of golf sooner or later.
“They’re gonna have to get together,” he said via FOX News. “They’ve had a lot of discussion back and forth. They both are meaning well, and a deal will ultimately happen. I think it will happen pretty quickly. It would be nice to see the best golfers play against each other.”
Trump has long been favorable toward LIV Golf, hosting tournaments and even going on Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel. He also invited DeChambeau up on stage the night of his 2024 election win.
The 47th president said, “They are all great people, and they want to work it out. So, if I can help work it out … I don’t get anything out of it. I can help them work it out. I just think golf – it’s very much an individual sport, and you want to see the best players playing against each other and not playing in two different locations.”
The president was even asked about how difficult this deal was in comparison to the negotiations for peace between Russia and Ukraine, and Trump joked that the PGA x PIF discussions were “much more complicated.”
A few weeks ago, Tiger Woods, one of the parties who visited Donald Trump at the White House, said, “I think that things are going to heal quickly. We’re going to get this game going in the right direction. It’s been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years and the fans want all of us to play together, all the top players playing together, and we’re going to make that happen.”
So far, it’s been all talk and very little progress, but there’s optimism in the PGA Tour and by the president that a resolution will be had in no time.
