“The golf keeps getting better” – Star golfer dishes on TGL’s success in first season

Through its first season, one that was delayed by an infrastructure issue by one year, TGL is proving to have staying power in the sport of golf. Despite the sport’s future being murky, there’s an interest and excitement in Tiger Woods’ and Rory McIlroy’s joint venture. This is because, as one star player put it, they keep playing better every week.

TGL debuted in early January, and by now, it’s one of the most popular things golf has going for it. It’s almost a shame that the season will be over by the end of next month. It has real momentum right now, and that’s what Cameron Young said is the reason it’s so popular.

“I feel like the golf keeps getting better and better,” Young said via Golf.com. “We couldn’t have played much better tonight. We played really well, obviously, last week. So I feel like that’s all kind of a product of us getting used to it and playing together a lot.”

Even the slight technological disadvantages are few and far between. Players know better now how to manage it, and they know what to do when something is slightly off as it has been from time to time. The tech isn’t perfect, and players know that well now.

It’s very different golf than they play on the weekends on the PGA Tour. That’s not necessarily a problem, though. In fact, Matt Fitzpatrick said, “I think the greens are so different. I compare it to like a new build of a new golf course. The green almost hasn’t settled. There’s so many subtle breaks. You can see it one way, it might just go a little bit the other way, and you’ve under-read that, and it stays high, whatever it may be.”

He added that there are a ton of subtleties, but they’re learning these things quickly and making adjustments. Golf is all about making adjustments to the surroundings, the weather, and the situation. Now, star golfers have been thrown into a totally new situation, and fans have gotten to watch over the last several weeks as they try to make adjustments once more.

These pros have had to “figure it out” at times throughout their career, and this is no different. It’s a different stage, but it’s the same play. Players are good enough to get good at this new style of golf, and that’s what they’ve done since January 7, and that’s why everyone loves TGL right now.

Tomorrow Golf League will wrap play in March, with a two-round playoff between the four teams that make it coming in the second half of the month. Then, they’ll have nine months off and will have to adjust for the second season once again in January.
