Tiger Woods still has yet to make his PGA Tour debut this year. He last played a full tournament in December at the PNC Championship. The last solo outing he had at a tournament was the Open Championship in July. Woods was nearly in the field for the Genesis Invitational, but he backed out after his mother’s passing.
He doesn’t anticipate playing, because of his mother’s death, in the Florida Swing. That includes the Players Championship, often referred to as golf’s fifth Major tournament. Even if he doesn’t, one golf insider believes Woods’ game is in good enough shape to play.
Golf insider provides update on Tiger Woods’ status

Tiger Woods recently had his final TGL outing of the season since his team was eliminated. He’s been present for all but one TGL match. The difference with this one was that he’d played the day before. He was at the Seminole Pro-Am on Monday for one round and then TGL on Tuesday.
According to golf insider Brad Saxon, one of the few who saw the private round of golf, Woods looked good and healthy. “Tiger drove it out there with Keegan on every shot. He walked all 18 holes there was not even a limp. He’s certainly in condition to play,” Saxon said via GolfWRX. “Hopefully for us at NBC and all fans he plays the Players Championship.”
Woods said he probably wouldn’t play the Players, although not in explicit words, but Saxon is hopeful that Woods’ return is sooner rather than later. The 15-time Major winner does have until 5:00 pm EST tonight to decide if he wants to enter the Players, but he is probably still mourning and won’t make an appearance.
Between now and the Masters, there are very few options for Woods. There are three tournaments beyond the Players and before the Masters (the Valspar Championship, Houston Open, and Valero Texas Open). Unfortunately, none of them are Signature Events, which doesn’t bode well for the chances of a Woods appearance.
If he doesn’t play next weekend at TPC Sawgrass, he might just have to wait for his yearly appearance at Augusta National to make his long-awaited return to professional, tournament golf on the PGA Tour.
