LIV Golf star Anthony Kim has had a long road to a return to professional golf. He was gone for well over a decade after mysteriously disappearing from the PGA Tour. He was reportedly not playing because of the Tour’s insurance that paid him well since he was no longer able to compete.
He eventually resurfaced on LIV and played the full season last year. However, early on this season, he has had to take a step back and recently revealed a major health diagnosis.
LIV Golf star Anthony Kim reveals blood clot

Anthony Kim recently shared a story on Instagram that confirmed that he’d suffered a blood clot. “Two weeks before Riyadh, I started feeling bad but couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Wel,l I found out yesterday it was a blood clot in my leg,” he said via ESPN.
The 39-year-old had been present in the first two events on the LIV calendar, but he had to step away after that. At Riyadh, the golfer broke even through 54 holes, which was good for a T49 finish. Kim shot 10 over par in Adelaide and finished 51st.
Last year, Kim joined LIV Golf as a wild card player. His best outing in 11 starts in 2024 was a 36th-place finish out of 54 golfers. He revealed that doctors told him he would survive this medical issue, but he did not reveal whether he’d be recovered for LIV’s events in Hong Kong or Singapore in March.
Kim also revealed recently that he hit a two-year sobriety milestone. That was part of the reason he’d walked away from golf in the first place. He revealed that he had struggles staying sober even while competing on the PGA Tour, and that continued even when he wasn’t playing.
The LIV player said he contemplated ending his life but eventually got help and went into rehab. Now, he’s more than two years sober and believes his best golf is still ahead of him for the rebel tour. He will now just have to get past this troubling diagnosis.
Blood clots can be difficult for athletes to overcome. Over in the NBA, Victor Wembanyama just got shut down for the season due to deep vein thrombosis caused by a blood clot in his shoulder. Chris Bosch’s career got cut short due to blood clot-related issues, but Kim is confident that the doctors will have him ready to compete again eventually.
