It’s not déjà vu, nor are you reading the wrong article. Nelly Korda just did it again. She won her fifth consecutive tournament in The Chevron Championship, the first major of the women’s season, no less.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Korda tied the old record set by legend Nacy Lopez, who won five straight tournaments in 1978. Another legend, Annika Sorenstam, had done the same in 2005.
The victory at the Chevron Championship was the 13th title and second career major for Nelly Korda, who now has 16 of the 27 points she needs to be inducted into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame.
Nelly Korda capitalized on her status as the favorite to win the Chevron Championship 2024 with a stellar final round performance. Korda finished at 13-under, two shots clear of second place.
Nelly Korda was among the Chevron Championship leaders after the first round, when she tied for second, one stroke behind Haeran Ryu. After 36 holes she was tied for the lead with Brooke Henderson, while after 54 holes she was in a tie for second alongside Henderson, one shot back of 54-hole leader Haeran Ryu.
Nelly Korda demonstrated unwavering resolve, carding a 3-under 69 with several birdies and a few bogeys in the final round. Of the leaders from the previous day, neither Brooke Henderson nor Haeran Ryu could keep pace, while Maja Stark was in contention on the front nine but lacked momentum on the final holes.
No player in LPGA Tour history has won six consecutive tournaments. Nelly Korda tees off next Thursday, April 25, at the JM Eagle LA Championship. Will she be able to make it?
