On Sunday, Rory McIlroy finally got over the hump at Augusta, winning the 89th Masters Tournament in a playoff over Justin Rose.
It completed the Grand Slam of Golf Majors as the green jacket had avoided McIlroy in the 17 years he’s been playing in the tournament. And while he blew a lead after the first two holes, rallied back, and then blew another lead, Rory McIlroy finally did it.
Following the winning birdie putt on 18, Nike released their newest ad celebrating Rory McIlroy’s accomplishment, and it’s perfect. Watch as Nike’s ad shows a dry cleaner accepting the green jacket with the message “This was always waiting for you”:

Rory McIlroy finally gets over the hump

While McIllroy finally got his win at Augusta, it came with some drama. Among the mistakes that he made was a short putt on 18 with the chance for par and the green jacket. He missed it left which opened the door for Rose who hit a long birdie putt on that same green just minutes earlier.
He did start the day off with the lead but Bryson DeChambeau came firing back and took a stroke lead after two. McIllroy retained the lead after the fourth hole and had his composure. But an errant shot into the water on 13 made things interesting as he double-bogeyed the hole.
“There were points on the back nine today when I thought, ‘Have I let it slip again?'” McIlroy said after the tournament via ESPN. “My battle today was with myself. It wasn’t with anyone else.”
The monkey is finally off his back.
