Miles Russell, the 15-year-old golf prodigy from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, is set to make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, thanks to a sponsor exemption.

This is a big deal for Russell a he’s going to be competing against some of the best golfers in the world at the Detroit Golf Club from June 27-30, 2024.

Miles Russell’s inclusion in the tournament is a testament to his exceptional talent and impressive achievements in junior golf. With his impressive performances in the Korn Ferry Tour and his success in junior golf championships, Russell has quickly established himself as one of golf’s most promising young talents.

Miles Russell’s Road to the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Miles Russell‘s journey to the PGA Tour has been nothing short of incredible. At just 15 years old, he’s already made history by becoming the youngest player to make the cut in the 35-year history of the Korn Ferry Tour.

His performance at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in April, where he finished tied for 20th, showed he can compete at a high level. With a score of 5-under 66 in the final round, including seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch, Miles Russell demonstrated his considerable potential.

Russell’s achievements in junior golf are just as impressive. In 2023, he was named the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Player of the Year, making him the youngest player ever to receive this honor.

His wins at the Junior PGA Championship and the Junior Players Championship really cemented his status as a rising star. All of these achievements earned him a spot on the US Junior Ryder Cup Team as well as the first USGA Junior National Team.

Miles Russell’s talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed. The Rocket Mortgage Classic’s Executive Director, Jason Langwell, expressed his excitement about Russell’s participation in the tournament.

“The Rocket Mortgage Classic is known as a tournament where ‘future stars start,’ and we’re thrilled to have Miles make his PGA Tour debut here and add to that legacy,” Langwell said. “He has proved with his many accomplishments at such a young age that he belongs, and we are excited to see Miles compete alongside the world’s best golfers here at Detroit Golf Club.”

Miles Russell himself is eager to seize this opportunity:

“Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players,” Russell said. “I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month.”

His enthusiasm and determination are evident as he prepares to take on this new challenge.

What’s also impressive is how Miles Russell manages to balance his academic responsibilities with his passion for golf. As a high school freshman taking online classes, he’s managed to excel both in the classroom and on the golf course.

These are the kinds of qualities that will serve him well as he makes the transition to the PGA Tour.

As Miles Russell gets ready to make his PGA Tour debut, the golf world will be watching closely. His participation in the Rocket Mortgage Classic is not just a personal milestone, but also a significant moment for junior golf. Russell’s journey is an inspiration to young golfers everywhere. It shows that with talent, hard work, and determination, dreams can become reality.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is a great opportunity for Russell to show what he can do on a bigger stage. Competing against seasoned professionals will be a valuable learning experience, and regardless of the outcome, it will undoubtedly contribute to his growth as a golfer.
