Scottie Scheffler is taking no prisoners in world golf as his current winning streak continues. Not only has he won four of his last five starts (with a T2 in between), but he is attacking every record he can get his hands on.
One of the most impressive is consecutive rounds of par or better. With his win at the 2024 RBC Heritage, Scottie Scheffler reached an astounding 40 consecutive rounds without scoring over par. Impressive.
With his third round at Hilton Heads, Scheffler passed Fred Funk for second on the all-time list. Funk had 38 consecutive rounds of par or better in 2002. But Scottie has a long way to go to set a new record. The mark is no less than 52 and has been held by Tiger Woods since 2001.
Scottie Scheffler’s streak began in the final round of the 2023 Tour Championship when he shot a 70. Since then, his worst 18-hole score has been 72, during the second round of The Masters Tournament. In that span, he has posted 30 rounds in the 60s, and his lowest score was a 63 in the third round of the RBC Heritage.
As for Tiger Woods‘ record, he set it between the third round of the 2000 GTE Byron Nelson Classic and the first round of the 2001 Phoenix Open. In that span, he had five wins, including two majors. He played two rounds with a score of 61 and the worst he recorded was a score of even par on the par-73 Kapalua Resort course.
Scottie Scheffler’s impressive records
A few weeks ago, Scottie Scheffler set a new record for consecutive rounds under par (28) in the current 2024 season between The Sentry and the Houston Open.
During the current season, Scheffler also became the first player in history to successfully defend his Players Championship title. He is also chasing the record for the best birdie average for a PGA Tour season. Scheffler is currently averaging 5.38 birdies per round, while the record is 4.92 birdies per round, set by Tiger Woods in 2020.
Scheffler is also the first player to win a tournament one week after winning a major since Tiger Woods did it in 2006. Scheffler did it by winning the RBC Heritage a week after his triumph at The Masters, while Woods did something similar when he won the 2006 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational a week after winning the PGA Championship.
With his victory at Hilton Heads, Scheffler tied another impressive mark, that of winning the RBC Heritage a week after winning at Augusta National. The last player to do that was Bernhard Langer nearly 40 years ago in 1985.
Finally, Scheffler has just joined a select list of only two other players to post streaks of five consecutive Top 2 finishes: Tiger Woods (2007-2008) and Vijay Singh (2004).
