There is no doubt that Scottie Scheffler’s current winning streak will come to an end some day, but while it lasts, it seems to go on forever. Scheffler plays such quality golf with such ease that you almost feel sorry for his opponents.
During the first round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open, Scottie Scheffler once again went really low on the score. Scheffler carded a bogey-free five-birdies round, for a 5-under 65.
In doing so, Scottie Scheffler reached 28 consecutive rounds under par and broke another PGA Tour record. Scheffler started the streak at his very first hole of the season (The Sentry) and has not shot par or better in any round in 2024.
Of his 28 rounds this season, he has posted scores in the 60s in 21 of them. He has three rounds of 64, two rounds of 65 and seven rounds of 66. In three of the seven tournaments he has played, he has shot all his four rounds under 70: The American Express (67 – 66 – 69 – 65), WM Phoenix Open (68 – 66 – 66 – 66) and The Players Championship (67 – 69 – 68 – 64).
Add to that what he did in the (unofficial) Hero World Challenge and his streak rises to 32 rounds under par (69 – 66 – 65 – 68).
With his opening round at the Houston Open, Scottie Scheffler broke the record of 27 consecutive rounds under par set by Akshay Bhatia between late 2023 and early 2024. This statistic has been tracked since 1983.
Another impressive streak that Scottie Scheffler still has going is consecutive holes without a bogey or double bogey. Scheffler has not made a bogey since the 5th hole of the third round of The Players Championship (50 holes ago). As for double bogeys, Scheffler’s most recent was on the 15th hole of the second round of The Genesis Invitational (201 holes ago).
Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Tour Records
On a circuit like the PGA Tour, which has seen so many legends parade through its courses, having the luxury of a record is not an easy task. But Scottie Scheffler has some interesting records:
- Less than two weeks ago, Scheffler became the first winner of The Players Championship to successfully defend his title. The event has celebrated 50 editions.
- Scheffler has the second-best round in PGA Tour history (59, tied with nine other players). The all-time record (58) belongs to Jim Furyk since the 2016 Travelers Championship. Scheffler shot that round in his rookie season, as we reported here.
- Scheffler has played in 17 editions of the majors (2 as an amateur) and finished in the top 10 nine times, including his victory at the 2022 Masters. His top 10s represent 52.94% of his total appearances in the majors, and 60% if we consider only those in which he played as a professional.
