Tiger Woods is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and successful golfers of all time. With 82 PGA Tour victories, including 15 major championships, Woods has cemented his legacy as a true legend of the sport. However, his journey has not been without its challenges, both on and off the course.
The world-renowned golfer recently made an appearance on the popular television show, “Today” on NBC. The interview, conducted by Carson Daly, provided a rare glimpse into the personal life of the golf legend, revealing the intricate dynamics of the Woods family, focusing particularly on Tiger Woods’ relationship with his children, Sam and Charlie.

Tiger Woods: “It’s amazing how many things I say to my kids that came from him”
Tiger Woods, born Eldrick Tont Woods, is not just a golf legend but also a devoted father to his two children, Sam and Charlie. His mother, Kultida Woods, has been a constant pillar of support throughout his life. Despite the highs and lows, Kultida has never left Tiger’s side, watching him play, supporting him, and standing up for him when necessary.
Unfortunately, Tiger Woos’ father, Earl Woods, passed away in 2006. Tiger often expresses his wish that his father could have met his children, especially his son Charlie, who is following in his father’s footsteps.
“I wish my dad could have met Charlie. I wish Charlie could have met my dad,” Woods said. “They would have loved each other.”
“It’s amazing how many things I say to my kids that came from him. I’m so happy he was a part of my life and that I get to pass on some of stuff that is in me [because] of him,” he added.
During the interview, Tiger Woods revealed some interesting dynamics about his relationship with his children. His 15-year-old son, Charlie, is working toward having a career like his father’s. But the same can’t be said for Tiger’s daughter, Sam. She has a “negative connotation” to the sport because, as Tiger explained, “golf took Daddy away from her”.
Sam recently caddied for her father and brother at the PNC Championship in December, but Tiger revealed that quality time with his daughter usually never involves golf.
“We developed our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf that we do things that doesn’t involve golf,” Woods said. “Meanwhile, my son and I do everything golf-related. It’s just very different.”
Despite having the best coach available, Tiger Woods also revealed that his son doesn’t always take his advice.
“He listens to me about golf, but anything else outside of that because I ‘don’t know anything else,'” Tiger explained. “Even then, there is a little pushback in golf, which is totally cool. He’s 15 years old. It’s what happens — it’s what teenagers go through. They’re trying to find their own place in the world.”
Despite his fame and success, Tiger Woods remains a family man at heart. His relationships with his children, his devotion to his mother, and his fond memories of his late father all paint a picture of a man who values family above all else. His interview on the Today show offered a rare glimpse into this side of the golf legend, reminding us that behind the professional golfer is a loving father and a devoted son.
