One young fan sat in the stands to watch Tiger Woods at TGL on Tuesday night: his son, Charlie. It was the final outing of the season for Woods, whose team was eliminated before taking the course that evening. While the playoffs are yet to occur, Woods’ season is done, and so is the first-ever regular season.
TGL was largely designed to revolutionize golf and give it a new format, but it was also designed to help push the game to new audiences, specifically younger ones. In the first year, the legendary golfer thinks they did just that.
Tiger Woods thinks TGL was a success in key area

Golf is a sport that has long suffered with the youth. They’re more into other sports, and the average age of a golf fan is significantly older. That may be beginning to change, though, and TGL has helped. Tiger Woods thinks so, anyway.
He said in a post-round interview via ASAP Sports Transcripts, “Well, I think, as I said, we were able to showcase the game in a different light. Everyone in today’s day and age, their attention span is not very long. So I think that what we were able to do with the shot clock and the time and the pace of play, I think that is great for the game and it’s great for the younger demographic.”
Young fans have trouble paying attention for long periods of time, and golf rounds can be pretty long. They can also involve a lot of dead time, as slow-play issues have cropped up in the last few years. Woods thinks what TGL has done to offset that has worked out.
“I think that we have so many different opportunities going forward with how this all turned out that the opportunities are endless. That’s what’s really neat. We can grow this bigger and better, and so many different options,” he said.
There are still three matches to be played, the semifinals and then the final. Those will be on March 17 and then the 24th and 25th. But aside from that, TGL’s first year is in the books, and it certainly looks like a huge success.
