Hello and welcome to the Almost Average writing team. We’re happy to have you. This article will serve as your onboarding instructions. You need to read this 100% to completion before starting writing. We’ve onboarded many writers over the years, if you read this to completion it should answer 95% of the questions you may have.
Once you go down this list, you should have a good understanding of how to use WordPress to write articles.
1.) Join Our Slack
When we create your WordPress account, we will send you a Slack invite. Slack will serve as our main communication tool. This chat can be used to chat with Almost Average staff members, brainstorm article ideas, discuss how to improve SEO on articles, and more.
2.) LIKE Our Facebook Page
Please like our FB Page, this is where articles will be posted. If you don’t have FB please disregard.

3.) JOIN Our 2 Facebook Groups
Below are our 2 Facebook Groups. You can post your articles in these groups, we own both of them. If you don’t have Facebook, disregard.

5.) Go to WordPress, Set-Up your Profile

https://www.almostaveragegolf.com/wp-admin/profile.php this is where you will need to upload a picture (upload avatar area), write a 3-4 sentence bio about yourself, and you can also link your Twitter handle if you wish. An example of a properly filled out profile should look like the example below….
To publish an article, this must be completed.
6.) IMPORTANT WHEN WRITING
The following things are VERY important to getting good results when writing…
- Set a Featured Image. This is the most important thing. If you don’t set a featured image, it will make the site look broken. It will also tell Google to not index it because we didn’t put in the effort to add an image.
- Correctly Tag Categories. This will help put your article into a bucket for people to navigate to on the website. You can also add a couple tags.
- Fill Out the SEO under the Article. You don’t need a 100 but if you can get the score above 80 that will be sufficient.
