The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship was filled with memorable moments and impressive performances. Rory McIlroy, who has a strong affinity for Quail Hollow having won there several times in the past, was once again in the spotlight. Other highlights included strong performances from Xander Schauffele (second consecutive runner-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship), Byeong Hun An, Jason Day and Sungjae Im.

Rory McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship for his 26th career PGA Tour victory. In a thrilling final round, McIlroy sprinted past Xander Schauffele to finish at 17-under par after a remarkable 6-under 65 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. The victory marked his fourth career victory at Quail Hollow and further solidified his position as one of the game’s greats. Notably, McIlroy hasn’t missed a cut this season with eight top-25 finishes, including a trio of top-10s.

The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship is Rory McIlroy’s second win in back-to-back starts this season, as in his previous start, he teamed with Shane Lowry to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, as we reported here.

It is the fourth time in his career that he has won in two or more consecutive starts. The first time was in 2012, when he won the BMW Championship and the Deutsche Bank Championship. He repeated the feat in 2014, when he won the PGA Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and The Open Championship. In 2022, he once again achieved the feat by winning the CJ Cup in South Carolina and the TOUR Championship.

The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship was held at the prestigious Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Opened in 1961, Quail Hollow underwent extensive renovations in 1997 and 2016 to modernize the layout and make it more suitable for regular PGA Tour events and major championships. The championship boasted a strong field that included nearly all of the top 100 players in the world.
