Going into Sunday’s final round at the 2025 Masters Tournament, we were primed for another showdown between Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau at a major. Following Bryson’s win at the US Open last year, McIlroy was out for revenge and wanted to complete the Grand Slam.
He was locked in despite a shakey start and as he took the lead on the first nine, DeChambeau struggled and it all but officially ended his day.
Following McIlroy’s win, DeChambeau discussed his pairing with the winner of the green jacket and revealed that the two didn’t talk at all during the round.
“Didn’t talk to me once all day,” DeChambeau said.
When asked if he tried to initiate some conversation, DeChambeau responded by saying: “He wouldn’t talk to me.”

Interesting.
Now a lot of people are taking this the wrong way, that’s just how it goes with social media these days. It’s not likely the two didn’t say a word to one another all day but as for clear conversation? Probably not.
With the chance at a Grand Slam, McIlroy was dialed in and focused on the task ahead. The two have different styles, which is fine. So this really shouldn’t be a big deal. And hopefully, this is the start of a new rivalry that brings some more fun to golf.
Bryson DeChambeau loved the atmosphere

With the two geared up for a showdown going into Sunday, the golf world was exciting. It was evident after McIlroy blew a two-shot lead after just the second hole. He did regroup and played great golf on the first nine.
But overall, DeChambeau loved the atmosphere out there at Augusta National Golf Club.
“Electric. I loved it,” he said of the atmosphere via Sports Illustrated. “But he was just like—just being focused, I guess. It’s not me, though.”
The next time the two could square off will be in May at the 2025 PGA Championship.
