Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has been paired at the Future Masters tournament with a distinguished group of young golfers, each the progeny of Major-winning champions.

This year’s Future Masters at Dothan Country Club in Dothan, Alabama, features a unique grouping that includes Jacob Immelman, son of 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman; Liam Curtis, son of 2003 Open champion Ben Curtis; and Henry Kuehne, son of Hank Kuehne, a former U.S. Amateur champion.

The Future Masters, celebrating its 75th anniversary, is one of the longest-running junior tournaments in the United States. It has previously crowned champions like Shaun Micheel, Stewart Cink, Hudson Swafford, Blayne Barber, Ollie Schniederjans, and Robby Shelton. This year, the spotlight is on Charlie Woods and his high-profile peers, adding a fresh layer of excitement to the prestigious event.

Charlie Woods and His High-Profile Group

Days before his appearance at the Future Masters, Charlie Woods qualified for his first USGA championship, the U.S. Junior Amateur, set to take place next month at Oakland Hills. Woods, 15, secured his spot with a remarkable performance at the Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, shooting a 1-under 71. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone in his budding golf career.

Charlie Woods’ qualifying round showcased his resilience and skill. Despite a challenging start with a bogey and double bogey, he rallied with five birdies, demonstrating his composure under pressure.

“I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16,” Woods said. “Putting was my biggest strength today. I made a lot of putts when I needed to.”

The grouping of Charlie Woods with other sons of Major-winning golfers is not just a coincidence. The Future Masters organizers, led by Angelia Wade Turner, deliberately paired these young golfers together to create a comfortable and competitive environment.

“We felt like the four PGA players’ sons would be more comfortable in them all being paired together,” Turner explained. “Also, if someone who has not played here before is paired with a PGA player’s son, they may just feel the pressure.”

This thoughtful arrangement aims to foster camaraderie among the young golfers while providing them with a competitive yet supportive atmosphere. The presence of these high-profile juniors is expected to draw significant attention, with the final rounds being live-streamed to a broader audience.

Charlie Woods has shown great promise leading up to the Future Masters. His performance at the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier was a testament to his growing skills and determination. The young Woods is keen on continuing his success at Dothan Country Club, where he will compete against a field of 232 players in the 15-18 age category.

After the first round and seven holes of the second round, Charlie Woods has a score of 4 over, eight strokes behind the leader in the 15-18 age group. The round was suspended on Friday due to bad weather and will resume at 6:45 am (local time) on Saturday.

The Future Masters tournament is not as strong as an AJGA invitational or open, but it still attracts top junior talent. Among the notable competitors are Notre Dame commit Pavel Tsar and Mississippi State commit Jackson Skinner. Charlie Woods and his group, however, will undoubtedly be the center of attention, given their unique lineage and potential.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Charlie Woods and his illustrious group. The young Woods has already demonstrated his ability to handle pressure and perform at a high level. His participation in the Future Masters is another step toward potentially following in his father’s legendary footsteps.

The Future Masters serves as a platform for these young golfers to showcase their talent and prepare for future challenges. For Charlie Woods, it is an opportunity to build on his recent successes and continue his development as a golfer. The presence of his father, Tiger Woods, will undoubtedly provide motivation and support as he competes in this prestigious event.

Charlie Woods’ participation in the Future Masters, alongside other sons of Major-winning champions, adds a captivating narrative to the tournament. As these young golfers strive for glory, they carry the legacy of their famous fathers while forging their own paths in the world of golf. The Future Masters promises to be a thrilling showcase of emerging talent, with Charlie Woods leading the way.
