Charlie Woods: The future is now

Charlie Woods has some big shoes to fill.

That is an understatement. Let me rephrase. Charlie Woods has the biggest shoes in the history of sports to fill, and all respect is given to Shaquille O’Neal’s son Shareef.

Woods, the 16-year-old son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, who many consider the greatest of all time, has played junior golf for a while, here and there. He has won the occasional tournament and played on TV with his father but has never quite shown the world his full potential, until now. Woods recently won his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) event, the Team Taylor Made Invitational (TTMI) (an event featuring four of the top five ranked junior players in the world) with a 15-under 201.

The AJGA offers the biggest and most stacked fields in all of junior golf.

“Being able to say to myself that I won an absolutely amazing event and to say I performed under some high-pressure situations is just huge going forward,” said Woods following the event.

The 2025 TTMI was played at Streamsong Resort’s Black Course, the most difficult of all the courses at the beautiful resort in Bowling Green Florida (there are four). They are the Red, Blue, Black and the Chain courses.

Woods’ scorecard for day one on the extremely difficult track was, simply put, striking.

He managed only three pars, all coming on Par 3’s, and finished with eight birdies, an eagle, five bogeys and one triple bogey to shoot a 2-under 70 and in position to make a weekend run.  Woods took advantage, held on and was unstoppable on Sunday. Some things do run in the family.

Woods carded a 70, 65 and 61 on his way to the tournament-low score of 201. The showing was the first time we have seen Jr. face adversity on the golf course and claw back.

Tiger says he is proud of his son and the progress he has made.

    From MSN.com:

“He (Charlie) has gotten better at every facet of the game,” said Tiger. “That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player. I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old. I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time but, being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far and the ceiling that he has is unlimited.”

There has been no word yet on Wood’s next event, but one thing is almost certain, the spotlight  has just gotten brighter.
