Tiger Woods reveals plans to sit out next TGL match: “It’s been a hard process”

Tiger Woods won’t play in the next TGL match for his team. Despite being a co-founder of the league and arguably the biggest draw for fans watching at home, the legendary golfer isn’t going to tee off with his Jupiter Links Golf Club this week. With the team sitting one spot outside the playoff picture, Woods’ absence could prove costly.

Tiger Woods confirms TGL absence this week

Despite his team being on the schedule, Tiger Woods won’t play in the TGL game this week against the unbeaten Bay Golf Club. Woods did play last week, his first competitive outing since the death of his mother in early February, but he can’t do it again.

Per Golf.com, the 82-time PGA Tour winner said:

“I had a hard time driving down here. I hadn’t hit a golf ball since I played with the President, and just put everything away and shut it off. I had a really hard time getting here and then reliving all the moments that we’ve had, my mom, how excited she was to have Charlie drive her here. So those are some great moments and great memories. It’s been a hard process.”

Kevin Kisner, Tom Kim, and Max Homa will represent the trio leading Jupiter Links’ last-ditch effort to win and get back into the playoff picture before next month’s postseason. Shane Lowry, Wyndham Clark, and Min Woo Lee will oppose them with Ludvig Aberg sitting out.

Tiger Woods won’t speculate on next PGA Tour appearance

Tiger Woods hasn’t played as a member of the PGA Tour since the Open Championship last summer. Woods did play in the PNC Championship, but that’s an unofficial event in December.

He was going to play in the Genesis Invitational, but he had to drop out due to his mother’s passing. He still served as tournament host, but Woods wasn’t in the field to play. He isn’t sure when he’ll play next, though the Masters, which is a month-and-a-half away, is very likely if nothing else.

Woods said per Golf.com, “I really haven’t thought about golf, so I don’t think I’m going to be thinking about it for just a little bit here.” He’s said he wants to play some in the lead-up to the Masters, the first Major of the season and the one in which he’s currently in the middle of a record streak of making the cut, but that might be out of the question for now as he continues to mourn the death of his mother.
