Scottie Scheffler continued his recent hot form to win The Players Championship 2024 at 20-under. Scheffler etched his name in the event’s 50-year history as the first champion to successfully defend his title in back-to-back editions.

Scheffler overcame several obstacles on his way to winning The Players Championship again. Throughout the event, he battled a neck injury that forced his masseuse to follow him around the course to treat him between shots.

The champion managed to shoot three rounds in the 60s, but still entered the fourth and deciding round of The Players Championship five shots behind interim leader Xander Schauffele. However, Scottie Scheffler brought out his best golfer in the world and fired a fourth-round 64 to climb to the top of the leaderboard at 20 under.

Schauffele himself and Brian Harman gave Scheffler stiff competition at the final round of The Players Championship, but the latter was able to come from behind to take the lead on Sunday. Another player who literally went down to the wire was Wyndham Clark, who had the tying putt on the 18th hole that would have forced a playoff with Scottie Scheffler. In an unexpected twist, Clark’s putt bizarrely hit the inside edge of the hole and rolled back out, giving Scheffler the win.

The Players Championship 2024 is Scottie Scheffler’s eighth official PGA Tour victory and second of the season in consecutive weeks.
